You Are Never The Only One

On Monday I launched The Monday #MoodUp series - a weekly IGTV that tackles a small but essential element of our thought processes that tend to get us into mental down-spirals. To launch the series I talked about why we need to remember that we are never ‘the only one’.

You see, when I post something about how I struggled in my relationship, how we teetered on the brink of divorce, my depression, anxiety…anything, you all send me the same message, “Oh thank god! I thought I was the only one.” I see them all come flooding in, sometimes hundreds of them and I realised it was time you knew that. It was time you knew for sure, absolutely and 100% that you are never the only one.

We sit in silence, alone with many of our worries or anxieties. From the smallest things to big, looming, dark problems and we don’t talk about it because we’re ashamed or worried or embarrassed. We worry that, if we tell someone, or say it out loud, people will judge us, think we’re useless, stupid, horrible humans but, from my experience of talking about this kind of shit on the internet to almost 30k people…that’s never the case. Never.

Sure, there have been trolls who have come at me for some things, but I’ve been in this business long enough to know that’s about them, nothing to do with me. The people that I know and love always offer me support and you, the people that I don’t know do exactly the same thing. That’s great for me but I want YOU to feel supported too so please know this:

You are never the only one. Someone else has always fucked up in the same way, felt the same way, dropped the same ball, been in the same situation. There’s always someone who will relate to your worries, anxieties, problems and issues…no matter how big or how small. Trust in that and don’t ever let the fear of embarrassment stop you asking for help, if you need it.
