3 Podcasts For People That Don't Like Podcasts

I used to hate podcasts. Well, I didn’t hate them, I just didn’t get them. Why did I need a podcast when I had TV or music or the radio or (old school, I know!) a book? Slowly but surely though, I’ve come around to the idea. A few things contributed to this turn around. Firstly, I was asked to be a guest on a few and listening to those made me realise that it was a pretty cool medium. Secondly, I can’t read a book while I’m ironing or cleaning the kitchen and in my efforts to reduce my TV watching, podcasts seemed like a great idea. Third, I’m a massive true crime fan and once I discovered the plethora of true crime podcasts I knew that I was hooked. Finally, I got sick of everyone talking about podcasts they were listening to and not being able to join in the conversation…so I jumped on the bandwagon. And what a bloody band wagon it is! So much so, that I even started my own podcast: TV My Husband Hates (if you’re into reality TV, it’s for you!)
So, if you’re a reluctant podcast listener, I’ve put together a few that should deffo bring you around…and NONE of them are interview podcasts. You’re welcome.
JOAN & JERICHA
Quite possibly the funniest podcast there is. Created by comedians Julia Davis and Vicki Pepperdine, this is a hugely irreverent podcast that will have you lol’ing on the tube, or bus, or in the bath or any damn place you listen to.
A faux agony aunt show, with judgemental hosts Joan Damry and Jericha Domain, the chat is witty, smart, super sharp all coloured by the slightest hint of them corpsing in the background is enough to test the toughest pelvic floor.
SERIAL
One of the first true crime podcasts to really make the most of the medium, Serial will have you binge listening with it’s cliffhangers and outstanding writing.
It’s an investigative journalism podcast hosted by Sarah Koenig, narrating a nonfiction story over multiple episodes. The first series tracks the murder case of Hae Min Lee in 1999 and believe me when I tell you, you won’t be able to put the damn thing down.
STUFF YOU SHOULD KNOW
This is a big favourite of my husband’s a great one for dipping in and out of. All episodes stand alone and basically tell you all about a thing you never even knew you needed to know.
Whether it’s rhyming slang, the best Christmas toy, fractals or why conversion therapy doesn’t work there’s something in there for anyone.
