A couple of weeks ago, I got a DM on Instagram from a lovely mum asking me if going freelance was a good idea. She wanted to know whether, as a mum, it made your life easier? Whether I could spend more time with my kids? Whether it was more flexible than a PAYE job? “What where the pros and cons?”, she asked.
Mark Lemon is the author of the increasingly popular Otis & Thea Lemon book series. A dad of two (Otis & Thea!) he penned his children’s books while commuting to Cardiff where he worked as a Retail Operations Manager in a shopping centre. Fast-forward a few months and this #dadpreneur has launched Lemon Drop Books, self-published two successful books with a third on the way and taken the leap to authoring full time. We bloody love featuring the dads as well as the mums and this dad is definitely one to watch in 2016.
Laura Williams is the founder of The Modern Nursery and all-round #mumboss oozing style, cool and sass. Having ditched her enviable job at leading British fashion brand, Burberry, after the reality of parenting and working became about as much fun as drinking bin juice, she launched The Modern Nursery. This is a beautiful shop for all things kids – think clean, Scandi-inspired style with more than a touch of pretty. We bloody love mamas building their own empires between naps and nappies so ladies and gents…let us introduce you to Laura Williams.
Hannah Saunders may be a mama but she hasn’t abandoned her partying ways. Founder of Big Fish Little Fish, she’s gone from being a 24hr party person to a 2-4 hour party person and what a successful shift it’s been. Putting on raves for Small people, Saunders has gone out of her way to recreate the anarchic, free and energetic atmosphere of those long-gone all night dance sessions we once enjoyed meaning we can revel in nostalgia (without the hangover) while our kids run themselves ragged. That, my friends, is what they call a win-win. Having launched in Brixton, Big Fish Little Fish now offer events across the country giving parents and Smalls something different to fill their weekends with. Here’s to Hannah…the party mama.
